Andrea Seger ’71 has enjoyed a championship-caliber career in collegiate athletics that she largely attributes to her years at SUNY Cortland. That’s why she has established a bequest in her will to support Cortland students far into the future.

A native of Norwalk, Connecticut, Andi was drawn to Cortland for its top-ranked physical education program. After graduating, her career included serving as one of the very few female athletic directors in NCAA Division 1-A athletics in addition to teaching, athletic training and, most recently, consulting.

While her academic degree set the groundwork for a stellar career, Andi says it was the overall Cortland experience that truly gave her the leadership, organizational and other skills she has used in virtually every aspect of her life. “It’s hard to explain,” she reflects from her home in North Carolina. From the close relationships with her instructors to her two-week summer experience at Raquette Lake, SUNY Cortland provided a broad-based education that continues to influence her life today.

Now, Andi wants to give future Cortland students the same life-changing educational opportunities she enjoyed by establishing a bequest in her will. The bequest is in addition to her earlier naming Cortland as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy and her annual donations.

“Every alum I talk to says they had a wonderful experience at Cortland,” Andi says. “I hope they think about the experiences they had at Cortland and think about providing that for others long into the future.”
